The Grizzlies squared off against the Wolfpack tonight in the second round of the state playoff with North Paulding as the #1 seed in their division and Creekview the #2. I am not sure there has ever been such an exciting game for the Grizzlies. Things did not start well for Creekview in the first half they were riddled with turnovers. It continued some into the second half where the Grizzlies were down 9 goals with 10 minutes left in the game. Most teams at this point would have packed it up and got ready to get back on the bus and go home. But not this team, as quit was not in their vocabulary. With 10 minutes left, the Creekview midfielders put on a clinic on how to win draw after draw after draw and you could start feeling the momentum build for what ended up being the most exciting ten minutes of lacrosse in the history of Creekview lacrosse. As the ball was transitioned into the offense the Grizzlies showed no mercy on the goal as they drilled the net over and over again. The ladies did what seemed to be the impossible and tied the game at 17 to 17 to send it to sudden death overtime to the shock of the Wolfpack and the excitement of the Grizzlies and their fans. You just don’t see comebacks to this extent in lacrosse. The first overtime was a stalemate as both teams came up short on their scoring plays which pushed it to a second overtime. The ladies looked destined to win the game but the Wolfpack were able to settle down and score first in overtime to deny the Grizzlies their miraculous victory. What a game to end the season. I am sure the girls will not forget this game throughout their lifetime. Tonight’s game ended their 2019 season with style and drama. Only one team gets to end the season with a win every year and it looks like the Grizzlies will shoot for that goal again next year. Good job ladies.
